LIBRARY MISSION
The CHUMC Library will be a quality resource for materials that aid in your Christian walk – through devotional material, biographies, self-help, church history and theology books, as well as DVD’s & CD’s.
Overall the collection will be “middle-of-the-road”, theologically. While there will be books from both the left and right, they should be ones that stretch your faith; not damage it.
Our goal is that you will feel secure and safe with anything you check out from your CHUMC Library.
USING THE LIBRARY:
Anytime the church is open, the library is open on a self-serve basis. Members and frequent guests at Chapel Hill UMC are encouraged to use the library. We ask that you please fill out a “Library User Sign-Up” form before checking out your first book. The forms are available in the library, or can be completed here: ONLINE FORM.
Books may be checked out for 2 weeks. An overdue notice will be sent 1 week after the due date. No fines will be charged for ovebrdue books. We will ask that you pay the replacement cost of any lost or damaged book. Reference books may not be checked out.
HISTORY
Chapel Hill’s library first opened its doors on Sept. 8, 1972. Ms. Delphine Wood lovingly ran the library for 30 years. In 2005, after several months without a librarian, a small group of laypeople were asked to be a committee for the oversight and rebirth of this ministry. Currently the Library Steering Committee members are: Sandy Clapp, Donna Blackstock, Suzann Wade, Peggy King, Sherri Chancellor, Linda Rush, and Jeff Parker.

BOOK REVIEW/READING LIST
From time to time we offer you a chance to see what various staff members or laity are reading. Or we may list “Further Reading” suggestions from our ministers, tied to a season/sermon series. Other times we will invite a CHUMC member to give a brief review of a library book they’ve recently read.
