Home for Christmas
by Rev. Mark Jardine
The year 2020 has brought many things home to us about what is really important. This Christmas season the real meaning of the season has come to us in the love, peace, joy and hope that was poured into the world that first Christmas in the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
The leadership of Chapel Hill wrestled with how to do our best to share that love, peace, joy and hope this Christmas Eve. We looked at three different options and even started planning for them. However, as the infection rate and deaths increased in our state, we considered the large attendance we have on Christmas Eve, and we were reminded again and again of the joy of singing carols, we made the decision to offer the gift of Christmas Eve worship only online this year.
Along with the decision by our leadership came the commitment to offer a worship service that would really engage our wonderful music ministry to the fullest while celebrating the birth of the greatest gift ever given, Jesus. This year we will have every musical ministry engaged from soloists and quartets to the organ and piano to handbells, winds, and brass. It will truly be a celebration to glorify God!
The service will be shared starting 5:00. You can easily access it at our webpage mychapelhill.org. We will have the chat enabled at 5pm, but you may watch it an any time after 5:00pm. We encourage you to engage in the service at the time that works best for you and your family gathered at home, scattered in homes around the country or around the world. Feel free to share the link with your friends who might be blessed by a Christmas Eve worship opportunity, perhaps for the first time. Let us celebrate this as an opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus’ birth with others in their most comfortable place, their homes.
We will have communion and candlelight supplies available at the church for pick up from following each of the in-person services this Sunday morning. You may also pick up these items, in the narthex (use the East sliding doors) on Wednesday from noon until 6pm. Simply come by any of those times and we will be glad to provide them to you for your family. If you cannot drop by, please let us know how many you need, and we will get them delivered to you before Christmas Eve service begins.
As we worship from home this Christmas Eve know it is our prayer that Christ will be at home in your hearts as you are in ours.
