PARK IT & PICNIC!
By Amanda Walz, Minister of Families
This is the time of year when Family Ministry typically kicks into overdrive, and this year, promises to be just as exciting!
The “Great Chapel Hill Flood of 2021” has given us an awesome opportunity to think outside of the box! Our space this year is a little more limited INSIDE, so we are moving out of the church and into the world!
What we’ve come up with is Park It & Picnic! Every Wednesday in June we will have a block party/church picnic/cook out style party in the EAST parking lot (which is highly visible from the road), and will invite our community in for free food. We’ll focus on just hanging out, being good neighbors and having fun during that time. We'll picnic and party in the evenings when it has cooled down.
We will still be promoting literacy by utilizing rolling racks of books that the kids can take home OR to sit and read at the event with some volunteers. We will also have take home kits full of fun VBS style activities for families to do at home.
I really think this is going to give us a chance to meet needs in our community, make relationships with the ENTIRE family unit (not just the kiddos), and to set up families to really start talking about Jesus at home.
We’ll need lots of help: shopping, cooking, prepping take home kits, being present and fellowshipping at the event, set up/take down, reading buddies, etc. so, let me know where you’d like to serve! Click HERE to fill out a Connect Card. Leave your name and Family Ministry / Park It & Picnic box and let us know you want to be present for a new thing this summer!
Thanks for all you do!
