By Susan Waite, Discipleship Chair
Early in June the Discipleship Committee sponsored a “Water-Walk” to hand out water to local peaceful protesters in Edmond and as it was pretty hot, the water was greatly appreciated AND several people went and bought more water to replenish the supplies! It was a loaves-and-fishes moment in that there was more water in the end than we started with. And a LOT of water was handed out.
I’m sure lately you have seen the unemployment lines featured in the news. So, on Monday (July 27) we are planning an early morning “Water-Walk” at the Unemployment Security Commission at 2401 N. Lincoln Blvd. We’ll add some kind of breakfast food as well! Reports have led us to believe that many people arrive very early, or even sleep in their cars overnight, to get a place in line. We plan to meet at Chapel Hill by 6:30 a.m. and then caravan (individual cars) to the site. You are, of course, welcome to meet us there. I just can’t give you details as to exactly where we might be since this is our first time. The plan is to be on site at 7:00 a.m. to set up. The office opens at 8:00 and we should be through by 9:00 at the latest (we think).
Safety precautions include:
*Wear your Chapel Hill t-shirt.
*Wear a mask and we’ll provide gloves.
*We will work the fringes of the line, no mingling, to maintain a semblance of social distancing. *And prayers for those who are struggling to find work and provide for their families are always a
great way to participate from home.
